What to Expect

We have included an online copy of our Patient Registration Form/Consent Form to download and print at your convenience. Please fill this in and bring it with you on the day of your appointment. You will also receive a copy of this in the post with a letter confirming your appointment.

Length of Appointment - Please allow 2-3 hours for your initial appointment, as it is likely that you will require diagnostic testing and your eyes to be dilated. Some of the diagnostic tests can take up to 20 minutes to complete and it takes upwards of 1/2 hour for your eyes to be dilated. This allows the doctor to view the back and inside of your eye.

What you will need to bring with you for your appointment

  • Referral letter from GP, optometrist, family physician or other doctor
  • Medicare card, DVA card, Pension Card
  • Have your Private Hospital Insurance information with you
  • Copies of results, x-rays, MRIs, CT scans etc and any other relevant information

Medication: A full list of all medications, vitamins and supplements. If you are on glaucoma medication please bring this with you to the appointment.

Spectacles: Please bring your current glasses along with you as well

What will happen at your appointment

On arrival - Reception staff will collect your completed patient information form and register you as a patient.

Orthoptist - You will be seen by an Orthoptist first. The Orthoptist will taksmiling_elderly_womane your medical history, test your vision and perform any additional diagnostic tests required by the doctor.

Ophthalmologist - You will then be seen by the doctor who will perform any further assessments required and discuss your condition and treatment options.

On departure - Reception staff will prepare an account detailing your consultation and testing performed.

Upon payment a receipt will be given for you to take to Medicare for a rebate. If you are a Veteran you will be required to sign a Veterans' Affairs form. Some treatments are bulk billed but others are not covered by Medicare and payment will be required for these.

Any review appointments that need to be made will be done for you before you leave. Should you need to change or cancel an appointment please contact us as soon as possible to minimise any inconvenience.

We recognise that your time is valuable, and we make every effort to run on time. Occasionally emergencies or patients require a little more time, and these cause scheduling delays beyond our control. We apologise if we keep you waiting.
